A trip out to find the magical and mystical Fairy Glen in Betws-y-Coed, which actually turned out to be quite hard to find using a sat nav, but well worth the effort when we eventually got there.

Walking the track from the car to the steps with all my gear wasn’t easy, especially on the steps down. Heavy rain had left the track muddy and steps extremely slippy, proving difficult to get a decent footing at the bottom near the water’s edge. After trying a couple of different spots using a 35mm, 105mm and my 14-24, I settled on the final place using the D750 on a tripod with the Nikon 85mm f/1.8 (ISO 100 @ 15s / 2 x ND 8 filters).

With the evening sun emerging to my right through broken cloud the light kept changing and I felt like I wasn’t getting anywhere. Lots of condensation and moisture kept collecting on the filters and my glasses, which made it hard to settle into it. I thought it would have to wait for a nice crisp morning, but I was pleasantly surprised how good this particular shot turned out when I got it in to Lightroom. I hope it goes some way to try and capture the mystical magic that draws so many people to this beautiful little spot.
